I had a great experience in York Furniture Gallery. After going to three other furniture stores and feeling pressured to buy something that wasn't what I was looking for I was about to give up. I'm glad I went into this store. The staff was very pleasant. Upon arrival I was greeted with friendly smiles and given a chance to look around to see if anything caught my eye. Once I found what I was looking for a sales associate was right there to answer all of my questions. I was able to customize my order to exactly what I needed. They even measured the furniture to make sure it would fit in my house! I never felt pressured to buy anything, the sales associates all had a great sense of humor and made my experience worth the trip. I love my new sectional and bedroom set, that I was able to customize to my exact taste. If you are looking for something unique but affordable this is where you want to go.I will be buying all of my furniture from them from now on. You can't beat the prices and the friendly staff.
We purchased a sectional in December from their clearance merchandise and Eliza helped us got a wonderful, high quality couch for a fantastic price. Today, we went back to furnish our family room. Kathleen was delightful. She listened to what we wanted, understood our budget and helped us get a great price on a couch and love seat. In NEITHER experience did we feel pressured to buy. It was a relaxed environment and we felt respected. Not once were we pushed to buy an extended warranty or use some financing scheme. It was a simple, clean and honest transaction. This is a store with quality furniture, reasonable pricing and professional service, not high pressure sales. We will come again when we need furniture in the future. Thanks!
If you read the reviews some of their employees have left on Glassdoor, you’ll see that many say York pays people to write good reviews for them, and they all talk about how sleazy management is. I’m assuming all their business is from people who do not read reviews and stop in because it’s close by as we did. DO NOT EVER SHOP HERE.
Lawrence Bell (Larry) – Let’s start with Larry. Larry is the manager at York and if you’ve read any of the other reviews, you already know he’s a sleazy salesman. We had just come from Value City where they had a deal on the sectional we were looking for. Larry went to the back to check the numbers and came out with a better price and said delivery would only take 2 weeks since the item is in their warehouse. Great! We also had a concern on whether the couch would fit so we asked him about that policy; he says we’ll just bring it back and give you store credit, no problem! That all being said and Larry assuring us he’ll take care of us because he’s the manager, we go to make the sale. As we’re sitting at the counter, he reads through the contract and what we’re signing, again assuring us that there’s nothing important and it’s all basic stuff. READ THE CONTRACT. There were at least 2 things about the delivery time AND the restocking fee that were a direct contradiction to what Larry told us.
My husband and I went in today and this was the first place we stopped. We have only had our previous couch (bought at another cheaper store)for 5 years, and it was falling apart, so we wanted something hat would last use awhile. Kathleen was very informative, knowledgeable and pleasant to work with. She was not pushy and was patient with me as I went back and forth on fabric choices. The options for the couch we ordered were endless and it's nice to know that we are covered should something happen to the frame
Waiting for delivery – After two weeks of hearing nothing from York I gave them a phone call. They said our furniture was NOT in the warehouse like Larry said and it will be 4-6 weeks since it’s a custom order. Not happy about that, but we can get over it. Six weeks goes by, still no word from York. You are as good as dead after they get your money. I give them a call, they say they have no idea what’s going on from the manufacturer so expect another 2 weeks. After another two weeks, I make my bi-weekly call to the utterly useless customer service people, which again inform me that the manufacturers are getting ready to ship and it will be another 2 weeks. Two weeks later I make the call and receive word of another week for a shipping delay. Meanwhile my girlfriend and I have just moved into an apartment and just needed furniture for the year until we buy a house. It has now been almost 1/5 of the year since we ordered the furniture.
I am a repeat customer of York Furniture. The staff at York Furniture are very helpful and friendly. I still own a bedroom set from 10 years ago and it is in perfect shape. Excellent quality and value. I am looking forward to my new purchase to be delivered in a few weeks.
Delivery – After 11 ½ weeks, we are finally receiving furniture!! However, our nightmare came true, it didn’t fit. The delivery people were gracious and tried for an hour to make it work but it just couldn’t. The delivery people ended up calling their manager to see what to do with the couch and the manager told them to... wait for it... “LEAVE IT THERE, it’s their problem now”. I should explain to you that we live in a house with apartments and the sectional was stuck in a PUBLIC area. Thankfully, the delivery guys had enough sense to take the furniture back as there was clearly no place to leave it.
Post delivery – We now were given 3 options, pay the 35% restocking fee (which we were not aware of) and pick out more furniture that may take 11 weeks to receive and not fit. Pay $250 for their tech to tear our sectional apart and put it back together inside, or have it delivered somewhere else. We opted to sell it to another couple, and when contacted about delivery, they had no idea they even had our furniture.
Wish I could give this business negative stars. This is the WORST business I’ve ever dealt with in my life. Shady selling tactics, abysmal customer service, and no support after the sale. I will detail each of the mishaps in the 15 unfortunate weeks I’ve had to deal with these people.
