I advise that you pack your own stuff and label each box; that's how I did it. This way you know exactly what you packed and where your stuff are. Save all nails, screws, and drawer knobs by taping them to the item they belong to or you will lose them. I saved all my nails and screws but forgot to save the drawer knobs and I lost one. It's not a big deal; I can easily replace that with a new one.
WARNING!! Be aware of fraud and scam moving companies. Look them up online and read reviews about them before paying anything. It happened to me, don't let it happen to you.
A very professional moving company. I worked with them to move my 1 bedroom apartment and honda civic car to another state. They did not give me an estimate over the phone, which was great. Instead they came to my apartment, looked at all my stuff, estimated the weights of each item, and emailed me a detailed estimate. The estimated weight came out to be very close to the actual weight. They do not charge you for more weight if they underestimated your weight. They provide this thing called binding estimate.
I have used Cook Moving Systems of Rochester, Ny, for 5 moves. Their computerized estimates are always correct for time and all items to be moved are wrapped before leaving your home to enter the truck, so that there is no damage to your belongings. My last move on June 21st from one high-rise apartment to another was handled with pristine knowledge and care by Christine, George, and Cedric.-- I cannot say enough about these great people!!
They will ask for payment two days before moving date. I paid by VISA. When the moving company arrives at your apartment, ask them how the process works. Understand it and work with them. The moving company tagged all my boxes with numbers, wrote down in the inventory table what the number is (your box label + furniture), wrapped all my furniture in blankets and shrinkwrap. You have to be there when they do this. I prefer you even do the writing of the inventory yourself. I didn't but I wish that I have because it will be easy to read your own handwriting later on when they deliver your items. About 11 number labels fell off because they were not sticking very well. This required that we go back to the inventory and search for those items and make sure they are here, which they luckily were. The process was very smooth and it took about 4 hours. The towing car came and took my car too.
I have worked with Cook Moving Systems for many years now. The management and staff is great and easy to work with. Cook is also very involved in community service and help their neighbors.

Talked to another person at the company who said they would check, no reply back. Finally got a hold of someone else who scheduled delivery. I didn't even ask for assembly as I didn't want the problem to repeat itself.
I called Cook bc they were highly recommended. I finally reached someone on the 5th attempt (one of which I was hung up on). The guy who answered, Mitch, gave me another person to call. I informed the receptionist (Nicole) that I had a short window of time and I needed a few items moved. She scheduled an in home consult for the next day... The guy (Patrick) never showed up. He only called me after I called the receptionist two more times to figure out what happened. After discussing my needs, he assured he would call me by the next morning at the latest and email me a quote. He never called and never emailed. I called two more times left voice mails and sent a text and he never responded. At the end of the following business day he calls to tell me there is nothing he can do. I thanked him and made him aware of the horrible cust service and I let him know that I had already made alt arrangements. He quite smugly apologized for the worst customer service. I would never recommend this company. I called Interior Moving Company and they quickly arranged for two movers and a truck to come next day.
They give you a time frame for delivery (about three weeks). They delivered my items after 10 days, which was great. Items were in excellent condition, the same way I left them. Except for losing one drawer knob. The process of moving all the stuff into my new apartment took about 4 hours. I prefer you have a very good idea to where everything is going. I created a floor plan for where everything should go. They placed everything in place, which saved us a lot of time. They will assemble whatever they or you disassembled before moving day. Except they will not hang anything on the walls. That's an extra charge where they offer you a third party service with people who they trust to do the job.
Contacted by the company for delivery. I asked to see if the item could be assembled. Jennifer at the Rochester office said she would check and call me right back. Never got a call. Left 6 messages for her over the next week and a half with no reply.
OVERALL, I had a great experience with United Van Lines. Pam Markwitz is the best coordinator with great management skills. Customer service is awesome!
