The food is fantastic, with lots of options for both meat eaters and vegetarians. Some things can be a bit on the spicy side (for me, at least) but they're so good you'll keep eating anyway. I've eaten multiple dishes here and never been disappointed. Highlights for me are the sambusas, the vegetarian platter, the kitfo (you can get it raw or partially/fully cooked), the vegetable soup, and the yebeg cha cha. If you've never eaten Ethiopian food before and you're open to new things, you should definitely give it a try.
I've never had Ethiopian food before so this was my first introduction. It was absolutely amazing. They roast their coffee right there. Add a dash of cinnamon to it for some extra good flavor. I haven't had the $15 coffee ceremony, but I intend to. The food itself was second to none. Meat was very tender, spiced to perfection.
My family visited with another Ethiopian family. The food was great; it was as close to a home-cooked Ethiopian meal as you could get without being home. Truly authentic. My wife really enjoyed the kitfo & gored gored (meat) dishes. I eat vegan and I was very happy with the options I had available to me. The injera was also very good - light and soft with a nice flavor and no heavy stomach feeling later on. The atmosphere was relaxing, the restaurant was clean and the owner was extremely attentive and helpful. We had a wonderful experience. If you are looking for authentic Ethiopian food at a good price, with plenty of options (including vegetarian/vegan), this restaurant is definitely the place to go.
Great food! I had dishes from the vegetarian menu and the quality of the food is as good or better than I've had anywhere. They even provide silverware and cut the injera (bread) for anyone who doesn't want to eat the traditional way (with your hands). Try this place.
This beautiful restaurant has no faults, even upon close inspection. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly, kind, helpful, and accommodating, and the atmosphere is a lovely mix between a relaxing (yet upbeat), modern ambiance and a traditional experience where one feels transported into the heart of the horn of Africa itself. Addis Ababa Restaurant is the perfect place for curious diners who wish to expand their culinary horizons by indulging in recipes and techniques that are completely authentic, having been invented and passed down in the families and communities of the owners and workers who grew up in Ethiopia themselves. Addis Ababa is also perfect for those with diet restrictions: there are a plethora of Vegetarian, Vegan, and Gluten Free options due to the nature of Ethiopian cuisine, and no diner must sacrifice authenticity or style to accommodate their palate.
With decorations, music, recipes, and staff from Traditional Ethiopia, with the modern feel of a familiar coffee bar and alcohol selection, and with the homey touches of a child-friendly, event-ready atmosphere and lounge areas, Addis Ababa Ethiopian Restaurant has only just begun to take the Rochester culinary scene by storm.
