So what is Nu Movement, let alone PiYo Live? This was the question I pondered to myself as I woke up in the morning. As any ordinary adventurer, I went off to explore the Nu Movement Studio off University Ave. next to Edibles. Walking into the studio for the first time had a intimate zen like quality about it. The polished hardware floors combined with nice paintings from local artists created the environment I needed to get my yoga on. Nu Movement is where all artists and teachers share an active role in supporting and sharing their art forms. This is done through there classes, exhibitions and curating local artists. Nu Movement holds a variety of yoga, salsa, zumba, and piyo classes.
Speaking of Piyo, that was the class I participated in at Nu Movement. Piyo is not "techno yoga" like I thought it was. PiYo combines Pilates, yoga and cardio to strengthen and tone essential muscles. You work on improving your flexibility and balance while flowing through movements that put your core to the ultimate test. With Jenni Graham leading the class, our core muscles were pumped for days to follow. No seriously, I felt that work-out for at least 2 days after. Jenni has this presence which will get you high off the yoga floor, literally by jumping A LOT. The music choice was awesome, which flowed nicely to the movements she wanted us to follow. I felt like a monk warrior doing all these balances, hops, and leg lifts. The work-out itself was so intense that it cured my hangover in the first half-hour. Thank you Karma Water/ KIND bars for saving the day with your healthy deliciousness.
Wow, cool! Coming to Nu Movement is a first time for me. I found Nu Movement through a Google search, but what really interested me was the wide array of classes offered. Looked like a great space, and when I arrived there, nervously clutching my newly bought yoga mat in hand (I'm a total newbie) my thoughts were confirmed! Great open space, friendly people in class and the instructor Danielle was amazing! Her instructions were concise, yet calming and overall a great boost for my well being. Come check it out! :)
Overall: Cozy Yoga Studio, Local Artists, Amazing Instructors, PIYO with Jenni, Warrior Stance, Hip Dance Music, Clean Yoga Mats, and a Tough Work-Out......I will be back.
